KESWICK’s former Labour Club, which closed recently, is set to be become a cycle hire shop and cafe if plans are given the go ahead by the Lake District National Park Authority.
An application for a change of use to cycle hire with associated retail and repairs and a cafe, for Keswick Bikes Ltd of Otley Road, was listed this week on the planning authority’s latest schedule.
The Labour Club, in lower Main Street, was recently placed into voluntary liquidation at a meeting of members who were told there had been an offer for the building, which was put on the market for £500,000 last October.
At that stage the members decided the club, which opened in the 1950s and once had a substantial membership, was no longer viable and should be sold.
The club had been losing money for some time. Once debts are settled, any excess money will be shared out among members.
