foy_snowman1.jpgRound one of the Scottish Rallying Championship, the Snowman rally, took place last Saturday in and around Inverness, writes WHEELSPIN.

West Cumbria Motorsport Club had two crews out on this event, and one was last year’s runner-up Peter Foy who is originally from Cockermouth. He was navigating a BSW sponsored Evo 6 for Mike Faulkner from Gretna.

They had a steady start and with the wrong tyres on and treacherous conditions were lying outside the top 10 after the first stage, but after swapping from the snow tyre to ice tyres set the second fastest stage time, moving them up to 5th overall.

Another excellent time on stage three saw them move up another place to fourth and despite catching up to the car in front of them in stage four, and having a very fast 360 fourth gear spin they kept their position going into the final stage.

They went on to set the second fastest stage time again, their second of the day, to move onto the podium and claim third overall.

Peter commented after the rally that it was very slippy but good fun, and was an excellent start to their 2010 campaign.

The other crew are new members of West Cumbria Motorsport club - the Lawsons Training Centre at Distington and Glan Ltd of Penrith sponsored Pug of David Crozier from Wigton and Alison Crozier from Keswick.

They had a rather busy start to their 2010 campaign and on stage one lost nine minutes when their Pug got stuck on a snow bank. They managed to dig it out as they were carrying a shovel with them.

Then further up the stage they caught an Audi Quarto which, when trying to go round an hairpin, dug it's front end in. Unfortunately for David and Alison it was the back end which they hit bursting their radiator.

They managed to get to the finish, do a 20 mile round section, then a 6 mile stage by stopping and throwing snow over the engine to cool it down, but unfortunately their Pug gave up in stage three.

Both crews are back out on the Border Counties on the 20th March, tackling the infamous Kielder Forest.

This Friday West Cumbria Motorclub have their annual Awards night at the Waverley Hotel, hopefully next week there will be a full report on what usually is an excellent night.
