FLIGHT-AJH_0478Nineteen notices of motion have been received ahead of the Derwent Valley Federation’s annual meeting on December 2.

The meeting, to be held in the Union Jack Club, Workington, has also had what is described as a request – not a motion but an item for consideration.

It comes from Flimby HS who would like the race controller/convoyer to consider later liberations from Stafford onwards – for both young and old birds.

There is a formal motion from the Workington Victoria club on the timing of liberations.

For all Saturday liberations they do not want the birds to arrive in the county before 1pm.

Two clubs – Seaton RBL and Workington Victoria – have proposed young bird programmes for 2010 which are different.

Seaton RBL want it to go – Flookburgh 1, Flookburgh 2, Garstang, Leyland, Appleton 1, Appleton 2, Stafford 1, Stafford 2, Wollaston, Cheltenham.

Victoria’s variation is – Flookburgh, Garstang 1, Garstang 2, Leyland 1, Leyland 2, Appleton 1, Appleton 2, Stafford, Wollaston or equivalent, Cheltenham or equivalent.

There’s also a difference of opinion on channel racing between Flimby West Coast and Seaton RBL

Flimby West Coast have proposed that the Derwent Valley Federation include four channel races in the 2010 programme.

Seaton RBL have countered with the Derwent Valley Federation competing on only three Combine Channel races.

Those two clubs are also opposed on the subject of inland and channel acing on the same week-end.

Flimby West Coast have proposed that no inland races be organised on the same week-end as channel races.

But Seaton RBL have put in a motion to allow a race from Stafford on the same day as Fougeres or equivalent channel race with the intention of liaising with the West Cumberland Federation and birds transported by the Derwent Valley Federation.

In this last 2009 season the final young bird race was from Marlborough and Netherton HS have proposed that the last race of the young bird programme should be Cheltenham.

There’s been a feeling for some time now that the season starts too soon and ends too soon, given the weather in April and September.

Seaton RBL are proposing that the 2010 season starts on the second Saturday in April and they will also propose that there should be a minimum of nine old bird inland races.

The other motions are as follows: Flimby West Coast – that the Derwent Valley Federation birds should not be liberated alongside Scottish organisations at any inland race-point in 2010; when birds are being transported by West Cumbria Federation transporter (Channel/Dual transportation) all competing members pay 20p basket man duties; that the two Federation marking stations used for Channel/dual transportation receive an increase in the funding they receive from the Federation, his to cover the cost of shavings, seals etc.

Harrington Central will propose all clubs receive a copy of the convoyer’s report from the Federation secretary after each race.
Netherton HS have asked that any proposals accepted by a majority of Federation delegates can only be rescinded at a subsequent annual general meeting.

Two more proposals from Seaton RBL (who have the most with seven) are: in the event of a bad weather forecast for Saturday, provisions be put in place for a postponement of 24 hours and for the first Flookburgh young bird race the ringing and convoying takes place on the Saturday of the race.

Workington Victoria’s two other proposals are that when a DVF pigeon is repatriated back to its owner by the good will of other DVF members the owner to pay the DVF a £10 fee and that the Amalgamation fee of £2 per loft should be abolished.
