David and Carol Wilson have carried-off from where they left-off in the West Cumberland Federation races.
After dominating the channel programme, with a clean sweep of the four water races, the Egremont Rangers loft won the first young bird race from Stafford.
And for good measure they took the first five places as they were clocked in the space of 20 seconds after arriving together.
Four of them were Jos Thorne pigeons, a breed introduced into the loft two years ago.
David – known as ‘Sugar’ throughout the pigeon fraternity – got the birds direct from Thorne via Australian fancier John Hansen.
“I flew yearlings this year and these are the second lot of young birds from the Thorne pigeons. The winner was one, a blue hen, while third, fourth and fifth were as well.
“The bird that was second Fed was off a chequer cock which won the Fed last year from Portsmouth and he was related to my good blue hen which has won three Feds.
“The only downside was that we sent 86 youngsters to the race and we lost 18 of them. I’m now looking at stopping 24 of them – ten cocks and 14 hens – for next year’s old bird team,” he said.
The West Cumberland birds were liberated with the Derwent Valley pigeons at 2-30pm and the Wilsons clocked their five at 5-17pm. They will also take the first five spots in the Two Feds Amalgamation.
