Derwent Valley Federation fanciers had mixed returns from the third young bird race on Saturday.
For while some lofts had one-hundred percent returns, or close to it, others were reflecting on losses of double figure proportions.
Workington Victoria secretary Les Blacklock is currently the RPRA President and gets around the country as a part of his duties.
“It’s rather worrying talking to fanciers from all over because losses in young bird races so far have been high and there doesn’t seem to be a logical explanation,” he said.
The Derwent Valley pigeons were at Garstang (just short of 60 miles into Workington) and were liberated at 1-30pm into alight north wind, but turning south soon after liberation.
The leaders were back in the Workington area at 2-47pm. Tomorrow’s race is from Leyland which is just over 70 miles.
The West Cumberland Federation raced from Appleton and had a good race. In the ETS lofts there were 38 pigeons timed between 2-00pm and 2-01pm following the 12 noon liberation.
