THE Derwent Valley Federation pigeons went back to Appleton on Saturday – and they didn’t hang about.
The youngsters were liberated at 8-00am for the 100-mile trip home and the leaders were back in their lofts before 9-20am.
Returns were good for the sixth race of the Federation programme, which leaves just four more races, starting this week-end from Whitchurch – a new race point for the Derwent Valley.
It was put into the programme by fanciers anxious to have a race from around 125 miles instead of jumping from 100 miles to 140 miles.
The West Cumberland Federation raced from Stafford last week and again decided early that they were going to race on the Sunday.
The birds were liberated at 9-00am and the winners were back home around 11-15pm. Returns were good. And this week-end the West Cumberland will stage its first Federation YB race from Wollaston.
