WE might be just two weeks into the new season, but there’s already talk of a major channel race in July.

The Two Feds Amalgamation Cumbria is organising a race from Niort on Saturday, July 10 with £100 prize money donated from the Unite Union.

The first three birds will win £50, £30and £20 for their respective owners.

The entry fee will be £10 a bird and after race expenses the money will be paid-out 50%, 30% and 20%.

Pools of £2 will be paid out one prize per 20 birds and there will be one £1 prize.

The race marking will be at the West Cumbria Federation headquarters from 12 noon to 1pm on Wednesday, July 7.

Meanwhile the Derwent Valley Federation birds went back to Leyland last week for a second successive race and the birds proved to be quicker than in the opening sprint of the season.
 
So far the lofts in form in the Federation are those of Michael Sleightholm and Ian Broatch (Harrington Central) and Alf Parker and son (Seaton RBL) who have won both opening races in their respective clubs.
 
Returns were good, but several lofts have reported stray birds from Wigton and Carlisle and that may have something to do with the fact that the East Cumberland Federation liberated only 15 minutes after the Derwent Valley.
 
This week the Derwent Valley move-up to almost 100 miles when they will race from Appleton.
 
Flimby West Coast officials have passed on their thanks to the donors of birds and all those who attended last Sunday’s squeaker sale, which helped make it a huge success.
