Ellenborough produced an awesome display of all-action rugby to destroy Seaton in the final of the E Lamb and Son Amateur Cup at Maryport.

Clearly niggled by their defeat in last week’s Cumberland Cup semi-final, Ellenborough were thirsting for revenge and got it – big style.

Coach Gary Murdock walked his troops round from the Ellenborough club to the Maryport pitch, arriving five minutes before kick-off visibly up for the contest ahead.

What followed was a demolition job as Seaton were taken apart and the 66-12 score-line underlined their massive superiority.

It took them only five minutes to go ahead when hooker Kyle Lofthouse went in for the first of 12 tries, and Eddie Robinson put over a superb touchline conversion.

Seaton weren’t given any time to settle and memories of the previous week’s 5-2 semi-final win were quickly dispelled when Jamie Watson crossed for the second try on eight minutes which Robinson again converted.

The powerful start continued on 14 minutes when centre Watson nipped in to score his second try, again converted by Robinson.

There was some relief for Seaton when winger Paul Hopper scored a try on 20 minutes which suggested they could make a fight of it, especially when Brett Phillips put over the conversion.

In fact it was nip and tuck from that point until half-time with Seaton enjoying their only real threatening spell of the game.

But it was Ellenborough who scored again almost on the half-0time whistle when stand-off Stephen Brought went in and Robinson’s conversion gave them a 24-6 advantage.

Effectively that was the end of Seaton’s challenge because by the time Adam McGlasson had gone over for a try on the hour, converted by Phillips it only reduced the deficit to 34-12.

David Sewell tore through to score on 48 minutes and evergreen second-row forward Paul McGee forced his way over four minutes later. Robinson converted the first.

McGee, playing out of his skin and earning the sponsors’ man of the match, then took over as he crossed in the 64th and 66th minutes to complete a quick fire hat-trick. Robinson converted the third.

Craig Holdsworth went in on 69 minutes; Sewell went 60 metres for his second on 75 minutes; Watson completed his hat-trick on 78 minutes and seconds before the final whistle Lofthouse grabbed his second. Robinson converted three of them to finish with nine.

Ellenborough can now look forward to next Saturday’s Champion of Champions final at Blackpool ahead of the Wath Brow v East Hull National Cup final. While Seaton will be looking to make amends when they tackle Kells on Friday night at Maryport in the final of the SJR Building Contractors Cumberland Cup.
