KELLS and Ellenborough are set for another showdown, this time in the John Smith’s CARL Division One championship final.
Pipped by Ellenborough to a point for the League title, Kells will get a chance for revenge on Friday, June 6 when they take on the Allerdale side at the Copeland Stadium.
The final is set for an early 6pm start, however, as that is Kells’ own club presentation night and the meal has been timed for 8pm. They will want to add a trophy to the top table.
Both protagonists won their top four semi-finals 19-6 on Tuesday night to set-up the June clash.
Kells made a flying start against local rivals Hensingham and were 12-0 ahead inside 16 minutes.
Barry Boyd went over on nine minutes and Ashley McDonald followed him seven minutes later, with Ryan Robb converting both.
Kells still led 12-0 at the interval but five minutes after the restart Hensingham gave themselves hope when David Phillips went over for a try which Kurt Maudling converted.
But David Dickinson gave Kells the cushion of an extra point with a drop goal and in the last minute Steve McGrady went through for the clinching try which Tony Burns converted.
Seaton looked like upsetting Ellenborough at one stage of their semi-final at Solway Park but the League winners came back strongly to take the contest.
Paul McGee had given Elbra the lead with an unconverted try before Paul Bell crossed on 21 minutes and the conversion by Duncan Moyle pushed Seaton ahead.
Seven minutes later Stephen Stoddart squared the match with a successful penalty.
Stoddart was to be the key player in the second-half for Ellenborough as he carried his side to victory.
He scored two tries in the 60th and 63rd minutes, converted both and for good measure added a drop goal before the end.
Seaton, Ellenborough and Kells figure a lot in what’s left for the Division One sides this season.
Seaton play Ellenborough this Saturday in the semi-final of the Cumberland Cup with the winners set to meet Kells in the final on Friday, May 30.
The Amateur Cup final is being played on Saturday, May 17 at Maryport (kick-off 3-pm) and brings together Ellenborough and Seaton again.
