Five Cumbrian hopefuls in Under-23 squad PDF Print E-mail

The BARLA Great Britain Under 23s side to play England Students at College Grove, Wakefield on Tuesday (May 13, 7.00pm) will be announced after training at Shaw Cross on Sunday.

Five Cumbrians are in the squad of 26 hopefuls - Lee Edwards (Barrow Island), Mark Haycock (Cockermouth), John Fiddler (Glasson Rangers), Scott Lofthouse (Kells) and Richard Farrer (Egremont).

Coaches Kevin Thompson and his assistant Kevin Armitstead will have the difficult task of paring the squad back from 26 players for a game which is being used as part of the build-up for the tour to Italy next month.

BARLA will be defending the Simone Franchini Nines Trophy which, together with both Tests against Italy, was won last year.

The rest of the squad is: Carl Booth, Ashley James (both Myton Warriors), Aaron Bradley (Hull Dockers), Andrew Brearley (Drighlington), Richard Cattley (Stanley Rangers), Mark Embleton (Castleford Panthers), John Astbury (Castleford Lock Lane), Andrew Greaves (Normanton Knights), Scott Green (Thornhill Trojans), Andrew Higson, Mark Jones (Leigh Miners Rangers), Tom Hill, Danny Caldwell, David Burns (York Acorn), Andy Williamson (Oulton Raiders), Jonathon Milner (Queens), Gareth Norris (East Hull), Ryan Peters (Leigh East), Martin Riley (Wigan St Judes), Dean Thompson (West Hull), John Walker (Bank Quay Bulls).

The Management team is: Mick Turner (International Manager), Roger Fagge (Assistant Manager), John Pattinson from Cumbria (BARLA Board), Kevin Thompson (Coach), Kevin Armitstead (Assistant Coach), Jonty Thompson (Physio) and Phil Hodgson (PRO).
