Hull Kingston Rovers’ full back Sean Briscoe is quite happy to have a low profile!
In any other season his move from Hull FC to red-and-white rivals Hull KR would have seen him making big headlines.
However, thanks to the switch of his former Hull teammate Paul Cooke to Rovers as well, Sean’s signing for the Robins hardly registered with many in a city where Rugby League is always major news.
And the modest but heroic and skill-full full back stressed that he was quite happy to have been kept out of the public gaze.
“My move went under the radar a bit because his [Paul Cooke’s] was the story of the year”, explained Briscoe in an exclusive interview with the official Millennium Magic match day magazine.
“Actually I got a lot of fans wishing me well”.
Briscoe continued, “I‘m really enjoying it now I’ve settled in and there’s a great set of lads here.
“We’ve won a few games this year but we’d like to have won a few more – it’s been a bit of a mixed bag.
And - just in case they don’t know - Briscoe also emphasised to any neutrals who will be in the Cardiff crowd that Hull FC v Hull KR derby game will be among the highlights of the Millennium Magic weekend.
“This game is massive for the city and it’s surprised me just how big it is. The fans are absolutely nuts about it and we know it means a lot”, he said.
The engage Super League Millennium Magic is not only a big weekend for Sean Briscoe and the Robins. It’s also the ultimate weekend carnival for Rugby League fans.
It is staged at Cardiff's Millennium Stadium over the first Bank Holiday weekend in May. The dates are as follows: Saturday 3rd May 2008 - Huddersfield Giants v Warrington Wolves (3pm); Castleford Tigers v Wakefield Trinity Wildcats (5pm); Bradford Bulls v Leeds (7pm).
Sunday 4th May 2008 - Catalans Dragons v Harlequins RL (2.30pm); Hull FC v Hull K R (4.30pm); St Helens v Wigan (6.30pm).
Juniors can see one day (three games) for just £5 or the whole weekend (six games) for an unbelievable £10!
