blake_mahovic_in_acton.jpgTalented young winger Blake Mahovic grabbed a hat-trick of tries as Egremont blasted struggling Eastmoor Dragons 40-6 at Gillfoot.

Yet it had been the visitors – with just five wins in their previous 14 games - who went in front in this National Conference Division Two clash.

The game was only two minutes old when Michael Jedynak scored a try for the visitors and Leigh Joyce added the conversion.

The Dragons continued to show great determination throughout the game, and had their moments in attack, but wee unable to break through the solid home defence again.

It did not take Egremont long to get back on terms. Mahiovic scored a simple try in the corner and John Paul Brocklebank added a fine, touchline conversion.

Jack Murray had a chance to put Egremont in front but he couldn’t get the ball down when he chased after a James McDonald kick.

It took 20 minutes for Egremont to get the lead and it came from a very special try.

Mahovic was the star as he went from acting half-back in his own half after Murray had fielded a kick through.

Although he went across field he still had the pace to get outside the Dragons cover and then he sped down the left side of the field for a terrific try which Brocklebank improved.

Full-back Rhys Davis finished the half with two scores. First he followed Brocklebank and McDonald as they carved open the Eastmoor defence down the middle and cleverly side-stepped the full-back to touchdown. Brocklebank converted. blake_mahovic_scores_for_egremont_v_eastmoor.jpg

Then he took over the kicking duties to land a penalty right on half-time.

Eastmoor started the second half well but it was Egremont who scored again on 53 minutes when centre Dean Laverick crossed for an unconverted try.

The game was virtually over now as a contest, although Egremont finished strongly and scored three late tries.

Mahovic completed his hat-trick when he swept onto Laverick’s well-timed pass and then he became provider when his powerful burst set-up Kieran Glynn for a strong finish.
