                                                       ANOTHER GETNOTICEDONLINE.CO.UK EXCLUSIVE

Whitehaven have re-signed their former second row forward Ryan Campbell, who was with Workington Town for the last three seasons.

Campbell, 27, had been released midway through the 2005 season to join Town along with Mark Cox.

A solid utility player, Campbell turned out in the second row for Town and also in the centre but has suffered a couple of injury set-backs in his time at Derwent Park. He dislocated his ankle and broke his leg early in 2007 and missed the rest of the season.

Campbell was Whitehaven’s Academy Player of the Year in 2002 and had represented both Scottish Students and Great Britain Students.

He had started at Wath Brow Hornets as an eight-year-old and played through the age groups there, earning Cumbrian honours at Under-16's.

It was while he was a member of St. Benedict's Sixth Form that he played for Scotland Great Britaiun Students, eventually linking-up with Whitehaven after playing for a joint Town/Haven Academy team.

He played in the A team at the Recreation Ground before being offered a contract but was allowed to leave in 2005 to join Town.

Speaking exclusively to getnoticedonline.co.uk he said: "I have enjoyed my time at Town, especially last season when I was able to feature in most of the games. It had been a bad time when I broke my leg and missed 2007.

"Now that I have been given the chance to rejoin Whitehaven I'm looking forward, especially as it gives me another opportunity to play for Ged as I enjoyed it last time.

"We start training on Sunday and I just want to get myself as fit as possioble. I want to be able to challenge for a place in the first team and hopefully cement that place as the season goes on."

Coach Ged Stokes said: “I signed Ryan for Workington from Whitehaven and he was going really well when he suffered that bad ankle break against Widnes.

“I think he has all the attributes top be a very good player at our level. The season he was injured he had put in a lot of work in pre-season and was looking very good.

“If he can look to his conditioning and develop as I think he will then we have a very good player on our hands.

“We have given him a two year contract and I think he’s got the right mind-set to be up there challenging for a first team spot.”

Whitehaven have also given a two year contract to Tyrone Dalton, 20, who moved to Whitehaven midway through last season from Workington.

Stokes said: “He’s a young player with potential who can operate in key positions – 6, 7 and 9 – and if he can get a good level of consistency to his game then I think he will develop very well indeed.”
