WHITEHAVEN have been linked to former Halifax star Graham Holroyd who is a free agent after rejecting a new deal at the Shay.
League Weekly reports today that Holroyd has turned to former RFL official David Howes, and a leading players’ agent, to boost his prospects for 2009.
Writer Dave Parker says that Howes told him there was interest from Whitehaven and he expected Barrow to follow suit. Now that could be an agent "doing his best for his client."
Because he added: “Don’t rule out Swinton either as all his mates are there with him now, well and truly ensconsed in the Greater Manchester area.
“There isn’t a problem with the three-month testimonial granted to him by the RFL for services rendered to the game as he can take that with him anywhere he goes.
“Although being a son of Halifax he may well have done very well there. However, we can sort him an itinerary of events and ensure he does well.”
But our source, close to the Whitehaven boardroom suggests any Holroyd signig is "a no goer" and that Swinton will be the favourites for his signature.
In his same well-thumbed column ‘Nosey’ Parker suggests that Whitehaven are talking to Barrow-boy Matt Gardner who scored 20 tries for Salford City Reds this season – including one in yesterday’s 36-18 Grand Final win over Celtic Crusaders.
