Pat RichardsGED Stokes’ worst fears were realised at the JJB Stadium as Wigan ran riot in the Challenge Cup clash with Whitehaven.

The Cumbrians slumped to their record defeat, beaten 106-8 as the Warriors ran in 18 tries.

It was sheer agony all the way through for the National One side as Iafeta Palea'aesina scored the first try of the game after just two minutes, and also the last right on the hooter.

Pat Richards (pictured) landed 17 out of 18 conversion attempts to boost the Wigan total as they moved through to a quarter final clash with Leeds.

Best individual try-scoring performance came from Sam Tomkins who scored five while Trent Barrett helped himself to a hat-trick.

Whitehaven did have the satisfaction of crossing the Wigan line twice through Ade Adebisi and Rob Jackson in the first-half as they trailed 48-8 at the break.
