KURT Wilton, a 20-year-old back-row forward is on a month’s trial with Whitehaven.

He will have his first run-out for the reserve grade on Saturday when they entertain Sheffield Eagles at the Recreation Ground.

If coach Ged Stokes is sufficiently happy with what he produces then he could include him in the senior squad to play Sheffield in the Co-operativ Championship on Monday.

And if he impresses, the 20-year-old back-rower could go in to the squad for the Championship trip to Sheffield 48 hours later.

Wilton, who had been playing in Australia’s New South Wales country competition for Yanco Wamoon and made the district representative side, flew to Britain or trials with Wakefield but was limited in his appearances.

Too old for the Under-20’s age limit Wilton did have a run-out at loose-forward against Castleford but Wakefield preferred to hold their three over-age places for first-teamers.

He trained with Whitehaven on Tuesday and will have another run-out tonight but apart from his limited rugby with Wakefield has played only limited rugby since September.

As well as loose-forward Wilton can also play at centre and stand-off but he admits he is short of match fitness.
