Workington Town scrum-half Liam Campbell is on his way to Barrow.

The 21-year-old Campbell, who hails from Barrow, will be following Australian prop forward Chris Young from Town to Craven Park.

Town had been hopeful that Campbell would stay after his pal Andrew Beattie moved back in the opposite direction but he is taking the opportunity to join his hometown club now they are in National One.

Campbell missed the entire 2008 season following knee reconstruction surgery after suffering the injury in a pre-season squad trip to a judo club in Kendal.

He was later picked for the festive friendly against Haven, but aggravated the problem in the warm-up.

In what has been his annus horribilis Campbell also had the trauma of a Crown Court case in Carlisle when he was eventually cleared of a sex assault.

Campbell, who signed for Town in 2006 had been with the Wakefield Academy, and since joining the west Cumbrians has played 39 first team games, scoring 25 tries in the process.
