martin_crompton.jpgIS the Blackpool bubble about to burst? Workington Town may find-out at Fylde on Sunday.

The Panthers lost their second successive Co-operative Championship One game at Oldham over the week-end, going down 40-26.

Then in his after-match quotes Blackpool coach Martin Crompton said he may resign after watching his team fall to defeat at the Whitebank Stadium.

The former Oldham Bears captain hinted at internal financial strife at the club following a second successive Co-operative Championship One defeat, which leaves the Panthers six points behind the Roughyeds in the race for promotion.

“I am currently reviewing my position,” said Crompton. “Internal issues (at the club) are causing a lot of problems for me and my players.

“So I am at the stage where I am thinking what is the point? I am fighting a losing battle. What is the point in carrying on?”

That’s not hat Blackpool’s fans will want to hear, nor in truth, rugby league supporters in general who have been delighted to see the club enjoying a successful season after years of struggling.

Yet there was always the concern – given the better class players Blackpool were signing, that they might be putting themselves in financial difficulties.

The first League defeat had occurred at York and after leading the table in the early weeks of the season the Panthers find themselves down to third – six behind Oldham (two games in hand) and five behind Hunslet (one game in hand).

Meanwhile Blackpool prop forward Andy Hobson is facing two separate charges at today’s disciplinary meeting in Leeds.

He has been charged with the use of the forearm or elbow while not in possession of the ball in that defeat at York.

The incident, involving York prop Nathan Freer, occurred in the 80th minute of the game.

Hobson has also been charged with tripping another front rower Luke Hardbottle in the first minute of the match.

No further action will be taken over an alleged butt just prior to half-time.
