Workington Town half-back Liam Finch has broken a bone in his ankle.
Finch (pictured), a virtual ever-present this season, was hurt at work today and contacted coach Gary Charlton later to tell him about the accident.
“It’s a bit too early to say how long he’s going to be out for because we don’t know how bad the break has been.
“I’m expecting to know more from him on Wednesday when he will have an idea of how serious it is.
“We just seem to be running into a spell of injuries which aren’t the quick-to-heal sort and it’s a bad time to have them,” said Charlton.
Hooker Jack Pedley will be out for the rest of the season as he now needs a complete shoulder reconstruction job.
Another hooker Darren King is still four to six weeks away from a return after he suffered a knee cap injury during the charity fund-raising game with Workington Zebras.
Workington don’t have a game this coming Sunday as it’s the Northern Rail Cup quarter finals dominating the League programme.
They resume the following week at Blackpool where, as well as the injured players, will be without Darren Holt who is away with his family on a holiday which has been booked for some time.
Town currently hold down the last play-off place in Co-operative Championship One and have a three-point advantage on next-in-line Swinton Lions, but they do have a game in hand.
The big factor, too, is that Town and Swinton still have to meet home an away – matches which could be vital to both team’s play-off hopes.
Also the key to Town’s chances of maintaining their place in the play-offs will probably be their matches against five of the six teams above them.
They are finished with second-placed Oldham but still have to go to leaders Hunslet; third-placed Blackpool and fifth in the table York City Knights.
Rochdale, who are fourth, and South Wales Scorpions who sit sixth have yet to play at Derwent Park.
Also to play at Derwent Park are London Skolars while Town must travel to Doncaster, the final game of the regulation League season on August 22.
