Workington Town are fairly confident of going ahead with the Ike Southward Memorial game at Derwent Park tomorrow.
An inspection of the pitch will be made this afternoon and with no severe frost anticipated tonight that should give the thumbs-up for the game with local rivals Whitehaven to take place.
Nearby Borough Park was ruled unplayable for today’s Blue Square North clash between Workington Reds and Blyth Spartans. But Derwent Park has more grass at this time of year and has not been played on.
Rutting in the town end goal-mouth was the major concern at the Reds’ ground and there are no such problems at Derwent Park.
Club chairman Dave Bowden said: “I am confident the game is going ahead as planned. We will look this afternoon, around the time the game is due to be played, but I expect no problems.”
