Cumbria County Cup holders Penrith face a stern test in the quarter finals of this year’s competition.
The Winters Park side will have ground advantage but opponents Wigton are enjoying a hugely successful season with only one defeat as they head the North Lancs Cumbria League.
Kendal have withdrawn from the competition and with Keswick and St. Benedict’s not settling last season’s Plate final to earn representation in the Cup, there will be only six sides contesting the quarter finals.
Workington were licking their lips after drawing Aspatria at the Ellis Sports Ground, especially as there’s a possibility the two sides will pass in the League pyramid structure this summer.
Carlisle, struggling to make an impact in North Two East, have a home tie against Kirkby Lonsdale, who like Workington harbour thoughts of promotion from the North Lancs Cumbria League.
There are also just three ties in the quarter finals of the Plate but a cracker is in prospect at Whitehaven where potential Cumbria League champions Whitehaven will host last season’s champions Netherhall, who have struggled this year in North Lancs Cumbria.
Millom will fancy their chances of going through at Gosforth Greengarth but the tie between Cockermouth and Moresby at Grassmoor is harder to call.
