NORTHERN RU clubs who have been decimated by the recent bad weather have been offered a thermal blanket by the Rugby Football Union.
It comes in the shape of a chance to beat the winter chill, cut fuel bills and earn a cash bonus in the process by joining the uSwitch.com Conversion Zone.
The Rugby Football Union has plugged into independent price comparison and switching service uSwitch.com.com to offer rugby clubs across England hard cash at a time when revenue streams have been severely hit.
Participating clubs can receive money for every one of their supporters who switches to a cheaper household energy supplier through a dedicated website - the Conversion Zone at www.uSwitch.com/rfu
The club supporter selects their club from a drop-down list, finds a cheaper supplier and switches. Not only do they cut their bills and save themselves money - up to £425 for switching their household energy source - their club earns a cash reward for doing so.
For example, if 100 club members complete an energy switch, and then get two people to switch their energy and nominate the club for the cash reward - that's 300 switches. And that's a £3,789* windfall for the club at a time when takings have been dratically hit. That’s based on an average cash reward of £12.89 for a single energy switch.
There is no upper limit on the amount of money clubs can raise through the programme and it's completely free. There are no contracts for clubs to sign and nothing to pay to make a switch. Clubs who are interested should contact the RFU's agency Dair (

RFU National Clubs Development Manager Andy Lees said: "'This is a great opportunity for clubs to increase their income with absolutely no risk - they can only profit. The more they encourage their members and friends and family to use the Conversion Zone the more they will gain. This can only help to ensure that clubs remain sustainable and growing during these difficult financial times."
Steve Weller, Marketing Director at uSwitch.com, added: "This is a win-win for consumers and grassroots rugby. Usually, with schemes like this, consumers have to spend money, but with our initiative they actually save money on their household bills while still raising vital funds for the rugby club of their choice. "
Supporters visiting the Conversion Zone website will be able to switch products and services across a range of sectors, including utilities, communications, insurance and personal finance.
