There has been some late shuffling of positions in both divisions of the West Cumbria Individuals summer snooker league which is now drawing to a conclusion, writes GREEN BAIZE.
In an all-Maryport clash young cueist Ryan Ismay fell victim to Mike Park who jumps up two places to third. He leap-frogged Ismay who is now down to fourth.
Park compiled a break of 33 on his way to a comfortable opening frame and followed up with a similar score-line in the second.
He sealed the win with the help of a 38 break in the third before taking the match 4-0 with the tightest frame of the evening on the pink.
Ismay has now completed all his fixtures and cannot better his fourth place while Park can only lose third place if Seaton's Paul Mostyn takes his last two matches 4-0 and betters Park's for and against aggregate. Park takes on Mostyn in his final fixture.
Workington's Alan Moore had already taken the runner-up place the previous week but cemented that position with a solid 4-0 win over Workington's Clive Lister.
Moore compiled a 51 break to take the first frame comfortably and went on to take solid second and third frames before he closed out the match with a tighter final frame.
Lister fared better in his relegation clash with Dave Chapman of Workington. Chapman desperately needed a win and ideally required a 4-0 result to push Lister into the single relegation place.
All started well for Chapman as he took the opening frame but Lister hit back with the next two to ensure that he consolidated his league position over his opponent.
Chapman refused to give in and duly took the final frame of the evening for a 2-2 draw but needs to win his final game while hoping that Lister fails to take a single frame from his last fixture.
In Division Two Cleator Moor's Alex Chiesa earned a solid 4-0 win over Maryport's Richard Lewthwaite to push himself joint top on points with long time front runner Mark Johnson of Workington.
Johnson has a game in hand of Chiesa but both players have almost certainly gained promotion for next summer.
Another Cleator Moor player, John Madine, completed his summer league campaign with a 4-0 win over Seaton's Shaun Moore although the frames were tight. Madine is currently in third place but players immediately below him have matches in hand.
Mid-tabled Shane Kane of Maryport had a useful win over Craig Denwood also of Maryport winning by three frames to one with Denwood taking a consolation final frame. Kane requires good wins in his remaining fixtures to have just a slim chance of taking a promotion place from the top two.
Workington's Paul Johnston had a 4-0 win over Lewthwaite to consolidate his mid-table standing. Lewthwaite's best chance of taking a frame came in the third losing the frame on the pink.
This season’s presentation night will be held on Monday, October 20th at 7.15 and the Workington Conservative Club has been the players' choice for the venmue. The singles k.o semi-finals and final will be held subject to confirmation by the club.
Entry forms for the forthcoming West Cumbria Individual Snooker Championships will be available shortly and entry fees will be the same as last year at £25.

The league has already secured the singles knockout sponsorship from Workington based Intrim Fitness Centres Ltd for a second year. It will be known as the Intrim Trophy and officials are now looking into sponsorship of the league itself for next season.
