In the latest round of D.Moffitt Roofing & Building fixtures the biggest mover of the week came at the hands of Division One's Mike Park of Maryport after the challenge from Workington's Mark Tunstall, writes GREEN BAIZE.
.
After a tight opening frame it was Tunstall who came out on top with a black-ball win. Park then settled down to compile a break of 33 to take a comfortable second frame to tie the match.
It was tight again in the third as Park took that frame also on the black to take the lead followed by the fourth to claim a useful 3-1 victory.
Proving just how tight a large portion of the top flight is that result pushes Park up from third bottom to third top. Tunstall lies on the same points but behind Park by virtue of that result.
Tunstall made amends for that result when he took on his second opponent of the week in Maryport cueist Ryan Ismay. Tunstall began the match the better of the two as he took the first frame and followed that up with a convincing second to assure himself of an unbeaten result.
Ismay briefly battled back to take the third but Tunstall finished the match off with a comfortable final frame for 3-1.
In the Second Division newcomers Sal Cakmak (pictured) and Garry Southern both of Maryport found themselves up against each other.
Both players have had positive starts to their summer campaigns but it was Southern who claimed the first frame with a comfortable opening frame.
Cakmak then found his feet but just fell short of leveling the match as he lost out on a black-ball second frame. With it all to do and undeterred Cakmak stepped up a further gear to compile frame winning breaks of 37 and 33 to pull the match back to 1-2 and duly went on take the final frame for a 2-2 draw. Southern is in third while Cakmak is only two points behind.
In the remaining league two fixtures Lamplugh's Andrew Henderson found himself up against it when challenged by Whitehaven's Ryan Henry.
The first two frames went the way of the Marchon player as he took a close first followed by a black-ball second for a 2-0 lead.
Henderson replied by taking a convincing third to give himself the chance to find a way back into the match. However Henry was determined to haul himself up the league table as he also claimed a close fourth frame to take the match from the division two leader by 3-1.
Henderson still remains top by a single point while Henry is four points behind with a match in hand.
A week earlier Gary Southern headed up the Division Two table with his first two promising league results of the season.
The former county eight ball pool champion firstly challenged Keswick's Chris D'Leny and took a tight opening frame but then settled well to take two comfortable frames for a 3-0 lead. D'Leny never gave up though claiming a black-ball decider in the final frame despite Southern compiling a 36 break to record a 3-1 defeat.
In Southern's second fixture of the week he took on fellow newcomer Andrew Henderson of Maryport Social. Henderson has also made a positive start to the season previously leading the Division Two title race.
Southern made the better start with a convincing opening frame but Henderson replied by bringing the match level with a close second.
Southern then stepped up the pace again with a clear third before Henderson took a black-ball fourth frame for a 2-2 result.
The top division's two front-runners Robert Sim of Marchon Club and Peter O'Hagan of John Street Club both recorded 3-1 victories over their respective opponents Steven O'Hagan and Clive Lister both of Workington.
O'Hagan got off to the best possible start as he took a convincing first frame with the aid of a 36 break, his highest of the season so far.
Sim then claimed two comfortable frames to take the lead matching his highest break of the season with 63 and a 33. O'Hagan almost pulled off an upset result though losing out in a tight final frame to Sim with a break 48 making the decisive difference.
Peter O'Hagan also took on Lister but lost the opener quite comfortably. From that point onwards though it became one-way traffic as O'Hagan took three comfortable frames ending with his highest break of the season so far with a 62 in the last frame.
Also in Division One Maryport's Mike Park finally moved off the foot of the table with a 3-1 one win over Workington's Stuart Ryan.
Ryan got off to a promising start with his first 30+ break of the campaign but could not prevent Park taking the first three frames including a comfortable third.
Ryan never gave up though taking the final frame of the evening on the black for a 3-1 reversal.
Park's second fixture of the week saw him challenged by fourth placed Ryan Ismay of Maryport Social. Park took the first two frames convincingly only for Ismay to mirror that in the last two for a 2-2 result.
The remaining division one fixture saw Workington's Mark Tunstall take the first three frames from Ryan including his highest break of the season with a 32 in the third.
Again Ryan refused to give up an took the final frame for his second 3-1 reversal of the week.
The MT Cleaning Services Trophy first round was also completed last week with Workington's Steven O'Hagan booking his place in the next round with a 2-0 victory over club colleague Tunstall as 64-16 and 57-44 frame victories were enough to take the tie.
Keswick's Chris D'Leny also went through defeating Henry 2-0 while the final tie saw Southern of Division Two the 2-0 winner over Ismay of Division One. The next round will be drawn shortly with week commencing Monday 16th August set aside for the ties.
