The Railway Club continued their impressive post Xmas run in the Window Outlet Cockermouth and District Snooker League Division One.
They closed the gap on league leaders John Street to just a point with a 6-0 away victory against Senhouse B.
Railway’s Ryan Adams started the first frame well against Senhouse B’s in-form Shaun Ayre as with two small contributions he led by 30.
As the frame developed both players were presented with good opportunities but with neither being able to take advantage the game was still to be won with just the green remaining.
However in playing safe Senhouse’s Ayre was to unfortunately deposit the blue and as Adams potted the balls he required the frame was decided, 67-36.
The second frame proved to be the closest of the evening as Senhouse B’s Nigel Carruthers took on Railway Captain Kevin Basnett.
In a very scrappy encounter the game went all the way to the colours and as Carruthers potted yellow and green he was 20 points in front.
From the resultant safety shot on the brown the Senhouse player left Basnett a slim chance and as a long pot was stroked in the Railwayman held his nerve to dispose of the remaining three balls for a 59-57 victory.
At 2-0 to the Railway club Neil Henderson out-potted Senhouse B veteran Barrie Haigh to lead by 20 points with five reds left on the table.
This lead proved to be decisive and in disposing of the last five colours for a break of 25 the Railway player delivered a convincing 79-23 win.
In frame four another confident start for a Railway player saw Steve Garroway take an early 20 point lead against Senhouse B’s Neil Bower.
From this point there was no way the Railway stalwart was going to let the frame slip and with the colours remaining Bower offered his hand to Garroway who took the game 43-7.
In the penultimate game Senhouse B’s Simon Burns and Railway’s Barry Collins (pictured above) traded blows and with just the pink and black left Collins stood ten points to the good.
The ensuing safety bout added an extra edge, however Burns unluckily went in off and Collins sank the pink as a consequence to win 67-45. It took the Railway cueists’ winning run to six games.
The final frame of the evening created a very open game with Senhouse B’s Andy Aitken and Railway’s Paul Graham going for their shots.
With neither player really managing to gain a useful lead the game went all the way to the last three balls. The blue proved elusive for both players initially but as it finally presented itself Railway’s Graham delivered an ice cool nerve to pot the blue and frame ball pink for a 59-47 frame and match win.
Also in Division One league leaders John Street drew at home with playoff placed Derwent A 3-3.
The fourth frame of the evening produced a clash of the titans as John Street’s Peter O’Hagan took on Derwent A’s Rob Sim.
Even though O’Hagan made a break of 28 he succumbed to the excellent potting of Sim, whose win included a break of 27.
Seaton Legion put an end to a miserable winless run stretching back to the beginning of November with a 5-1 home victory over relegation placed Maryport Social B.
In the final game of the division Maryport Social A proved victorious over derby opponents Ellenborough with a 4-2 home win.
In the second tier Clifton’s Barry Graham helped his team to a 3-3 away draw by making the highest break of the division so far this season with a superb contribution of 46 in his win over Station Road captain Peter Collins.
With four frames being decided on the colours including a re-spotted black ball win, home side Workington Legion and section leaders Senhouse A scrapped out a 3-3 draw.
The final game of the division and the week saw Flimby Club deliver a fine 4-2 away win against Derwent B to take them into sole second spot.
