The MT Cleaning Services Trophy replaced the league fixtures schedule last week as the quarter-final ties were played out, writes GREEN BAIZE.
.
Whitehaven’s Robert Sim eased through to the semi-finals to stay on course to defend his title as he overcame Maryport newcomer Garry Southern by two frames to nil including breaks of 35 and 32 in the opener.
Workington’s Peter O’Hagan (pictured) also booked his place in the last four with the same score-line over Cleator Moor’s Mike Walker. O’Hagan took the first frame 80 – 20 with the help of a 36 break but was made to work for the second frame as Walker only lost out on the pink by 43 – 60.
Keswick’s Chris D’Leny found himself 1-0 down as Sal Cakmak of Maryport nicked the opening frame on the black. D’Leny then stepped up a gear to compile a 33 break and pull the match back level before taking the third and deciding frame for 2-1 to join Division One’s leading two players.
The remaining quarter-final tie sees Lamplugh’s Andrew Henderson take on Workington’s Steven O’Hagan. Voting takes place from Monday 30th August to decide on the West Cumbria Snooker League summer presentation night venue which will also host the singles knockout semi-finals and final.
There were several D. Moffitt Roofing & Building league fixtures completed also last week.
The top of division one has become tighter as Peter O’Hagan recorded a 4-0 win over Maryport’s Ryan Ismay. O’Hagan claimed three comfortable frames with breaks of 33, 39 and 66 in each of the first three frames respectively before Ismay showed more resistance in the final frame.
However O’Hagan was able to take that frame for maximum points to now lie only three points behind leader Sim. Ismay is narrowly bottom but there is now no relegation.
Third placed Mike Park of Maryport was in turn able to close the gap on O’Hagan to two points as he firstly defeated Workington’s Stuart Ryan with a solid 4-0 result. Park compiled breaks of 37 and 40 in the second and final frames respectively.
Park then took on Steven O’Hagan and won a close opening frame. O’Hagan responded by going clear in the second to tie the match. Park went on to take a comfortable final two frames for a 3-1. victory which saw O’Hagan remain mid-table.
In Division Two Chris D’Leny reclaimed the lead from the previous week’s leader Walker as he recorded a solid 4-0 win over Henderson to go three points clear at the top. Henderson remains around mid-table.
The only other Division Two fixture saw Southern promote himself into second place with a match in hand of D’Leny as he was challenged by Cakmak. After a comfortable opening frame to Southern, Cakmak battled back to take a close fought second.
Southern then pulled away from his opponent with two comfortable final frames including a 34 break in the last one to record a 3-1 win. Cakmak remains second bottom but does have a couple of games in hand.
All players are reminded that the deadline is Sunday September 12th to complete all outstanding scheduled fixtures which are postponed/cancelled from present to that date as these are required to be completed by two weeks prior to the last day of the season. League rules 4i & 4j apply in these cases. Anyone having difficulties should contact the secretary.
