In the latest round of league games in the Eddie Shimmings Individual Snooker Championships the top two players in the premiership pulled further away from their remaining challengers, writes GREEN BAIZE.

There were two further league wins for Robert Sim and Peter O’Hagan.

Copeland’s Sim firstly disposed of Marchon Club colleague and Division One front runner Ryan Henry by 5-0. The opening frame was the closest of the match despite Sim making a break of 38.

Sim followed-up with two comfortable frames including a 31 break in the third for the guaranteed win before the best frame of the evening saw Henry make a 32 break only for Sim to make a frame winning 71.

The Copeland player finished the match with a 33 break in the last.

He had to battle much harder, however, in his second fixture of the week as he took on the in-form Steven O’Hagan of Workington.

Although Sim went 3-0 up with the only break of the evening, a 38 in the second, O’Hagan took the final two frames of the night for a respectable 3-2 reversal to help peg back Sim’s premiership lead over brother Peter who lies in second.

Peter O’Hagan had a useful 5-0 victory over Keswick’s Chris D’Leny when the opening frame was the most competitive of the match.

D’Leny compiled a 38 break while O’Hagan made a 47 to take a tight opening frame.

From that point on O’Hagan was able to step up a gear to take the remaining four frames with breaks of 69, 47, 36 and 31.

In O’Hagan’s second recent fixture he repeated the 5-0 score-line over John Street Club colleague Mark Tunstall of Workington. The best frame of the match came in the third frame with O’Hagan already 2-0 up, including a break of 34 in the second.

Tunstall constructed a 36 break but O’Hagan replied with a 51 and went on to take the final two frames with a 49 break in the fourth and two further breaks of 40 in the final frame.

O’Hagan clawed back two points on Sim with those results and he has two matches in hand of the leader who is currently 15 points ahead.

D’Leny also suffered a setback to his Division One title hopes when taking on Premiership player Mike Park of Maryport.

Despite tight second and third frames Park went into an unassailable 3-0 lead before D’Leny took another close fought fourth and a more comfortable fifth for a more respectable 3-2 defeat.

Park also had two recent fixtures as he plays catch-up with matches in hand. In his second recent match Park went 4-0 up against Clifton’s Gary Mattinson including breaks of 42 and 41 but Mattinson took the final frame to avoid the whitewash.

Park now moves off the foot of the premiership while D’Leny is two points behind Division One leader Henry.

Tunstall had a better result when challenged by Workington’s Dave Chapman of Division One. However, despite breaks of 48 and 30 by Tunstall to take a 2-0 lead, Chapman showed his character to pull the match back to 2-2 including a black-ball third.

It was Tunstall, though, who ran out the 3-2 victor and remains fourth some ten points behind third place. Chapman remains at the foot of the Division One table by two points.

Henry maintained a two point lead in Division One with a come-back from 2-0 down against Clifton’s Richard Nelson to win 3-2. That kept Nelson in third place.

The semi-final draw for the Intrim Trophy in the individual league knockout competition sees Robert Sim receive a home tie against Keswick’s Chris D’Leny. The other tie sees Richard Nelson of Clifton take on Workington’s Steven O’Hagan.

The draw was made in the Workington Conservative Club on Monday, January 25 by Gary Mattinson and Mike Park with the completion date of Sunday April 4 for the best of five frame encounters.
