JOHN Branney will return to the Workington Comets team on Saturday for the home clash with Glasgow Tigers.
Branney did 20 laps of Derwent Park on Monday to confirm his fitness after recovering from a series of knocks he took, ironically against the Tigers at Ashfield.
He is back down in the reserve slot where he will partner the in-form Craig Cook but the Comets must still use rider replacement at number two.
Charles Wright is still not ready to resume a month after a crashing fall, also at Glasgow, left him with a swollen hand and very sore heels.
“I keep thinking the hand is getting better but then it swells up and I’m back to square one.
“It’s my right hand which is affected so that’s important but it’s not my scaphoid. It’s down the outside near my little finger where the problem is.
“Also my heels were very sore to start with and I had to virtually walk on tip-toe. I’m still getting pain and discomfort in one ankle and I noticed that had swollen up one day.
“The bottom line is I am not going to return to speedway until I’m completely fit. It’s happened too many times in the past when I’ve gone back too soon and paid the price,” said Wright who planned a hospital visit for another X-Ray examination of the hand.
Cook continued his splendid run of form for Buxton Hitmen on Friday by collecting 17 and a bonus point at Plymouth from seven rides. That included a tactical ride win which went with two other victories on the night in a 55-38 defeat.
His efforts followed a first paid maximum the previous Sunday in a big home win over Rye House.
