Workington Comets have had to make a late change for tomorrow night’s trip to Berwick.
South African Byron Bekker, who had been lined-up to ride at reserve, suffered a bad shoulder injury riding tonight for Weymouth.
So with Richard Lawson unable to ride at Shielfield Workington have booked Lewis Dallaway a team-mate of number one Craig Cook.
Team manager Ian Thomas said: “Richard told me that his surgeon hadn’t had an opportunity to assess the scan. So he was going to practice but couldn’t commit himself to riding on Saturday…
“That was bad enough but then I got a call from Byron Bekker’s girl-friend to say he had suffered a bad shoulder injury riding for Weymouth and was going to be out for a while.
“At this stage, with our trip to Berwick less then 24 hours way it was going to be hard getting a replacement for Richard. But in then end I got Lewis Dalloway who had scored ten paid 12 from a recent National League match.
“I’m hoping that Richard will be available for Monday when we ride at Derwent Park against Berwick.”
Cook top-scored with 16 in a heavy defeat at Plymouth tonight as Buxton crashed 57-36 with reserve Dalloway scoring one point..
Thomas said; “It wasn’t easy to start with but with less than 24 hours notice it was really tough to find a replacement. However, I was very impressed with the way in which Byran’s girl-friend rang to say he would be unavailable after the accident. I thought that was very professional of him.”
