Cumbria's Year 3 & 4 Schools Competition finished off in style after 14 teams were involved at Penrith Tennis Club.

There were eight who competed in the small schools section with another six in the large section.

A total of 77 primary schools had taken part in the competition,  meaning that approximately 1540 school aged children had received coaching and 616 of them competed.

The event brought the Year 3 & 4 schools competition to a finale after qualifying events had taken place in the 6 partnership areas around the County (Allerdale, Barrow, Carlisle, Copeland, Eden, South Lakeland).

Penrith Tennis Club provided excellent courts with added viewing gallery at the side.

However, rain nearly stopped the event but the referee (John Cunliffe) made a great decision to reduce the matches to first to seven which was vital as just as the last point was played the heavens opened!

With the rain2007-High-Five-JJ-medium_150x150 showing no signs of clearing Penrith Rugby Club opened their doors for everyone to take cover so that the presentation could take place.

Over 16 volunteers helped with the event, which included the Cumbria Competition Managers and some young volunteers including Daniel England, Kate Hansbury, Natalie Hansbury, Zoe Aitken, Louise Huddart, Andrew Butterwatt, Lewis Macrell, James Nicholson, Jamie Kelly, Steven Elliott, Sam Hutt.  All of whom were keen, enthusiastic and ready to inspire the younger players!

Local coaches Suzzi Garnett, George Spry and David Wise supporting their teams.
