Dion - Written on the Subway walls

Here's another from that superb album Yo Frankie in which Dion goes back to his roots in the Bronx.

His latest albums have been blues influenced - Son of Skip Jams is a classic. Some of hat to look forward to. Maryport Blue Festival committee take note!

We've been very quiet on the video scene recently, so I decided it was time to highlight the king - of pop, rock, folk, blues, rhythm and blues, gospel - a true all-rounder who is still going strong at 63.

This is one of the tracks from possibly the best album compilation of the last twenty years - Yo Frankie. This one is called King of the New York Streets.

I'm totally biased. I used to have a standing order at Mrs Kovary's in Cockermouth for every new record he brought out. I've been a fan for over 50 years. One of my three remaining ambitions before I bite the bullet is to see the great man live in concert. Maryport Blues Festival committee could help that along by booking him to headling a Festival in the not too distant future.

In the meantime sit back and enjoy a true artist at work. More to come.

Albert Lee - Country Boy

Here's Albert Lee who was in Cumbria this year to help a Lincolnshire singer make his firstalbum at Tom Tyson's studio in Egremont.

Adrian Freebury, of Axholme Drive, Epworth, has been writing songs as a hobby since 1979 and this year he penned some tunes with Albert Lee, an artist renowned for being 'the guitar player's guitar player.'

The chance to record the album came about after Adrian's wife, Annie, bought him two days at the Music Farm Studio in Egremont, Cumbria, a surprise present which put him in touch with producer and sound engineer, Tom Tyson.

This great version of 'Country Boy' is from an old Chas and Dave Christmas Special as Albert is invited on stage and the eagle-eyed might spot Eric Clapton in the audience.

For the full run-down on Albert and his appearance at the Egremont studios turn to our general news section http://www.getnoticedonline.co.uk/news/general-news/in-an-egremont-studio-with-albert-is-a-dream-for-adrian.html?mosmsg=Item+successfully+saved.

The Comedy of Errors - RSC, Musical, 1976

A LAMDA performance of Shakespeare at Bowness has hit the headlines this week because of the bawdy nature of the interpretation.

The national newspapers have followed-up the Westmorland Gazette tale after ten members of Monday's audience walked-out because of a simulated sex scene.

We haven't got that, of course, but here's a flavour of Comedyof Errors in a Royal Shakespeare Company version from 1976 which was given a musical treatment by Trevor Nunn.

This scene: In Ephesus on "holiday", Antipholus (Roger Rees) and Dromio (Michael Williams) of Syracuse are unknowingly mistaken for their long lost twin brothers Antipholus and Dromio of Ephesus by Adriana (Judi Dench), the denied and restless wife of Antipholus of Ephesus.

Adriana is convinced that her husband's attentions have been straying to the many licentious distractions in Ephesus, and is in desperate need of some attention herself. Upon seeing "him" in the square, she makes her move of determination to keep "her husband's" attentions where they should be...at home and on her.

Shakespeare's comedy of mistaken identity is never more funny than when in the hands of these brilliant artists. Other's in the scene: Adriana's sister, Luciana (Francesca Annis), and their house maid Luce (Susan Dury).

Bogtrotters - Bingley Bash Plus - October 2008

This is a You Tube offering by the Bogtrotters - Lancaster-based mountain-biking club with members from Cumbria who have regular get-togethers in various parts of the north.

They came to the attention of getnoticedonline.co.uk at the week-end when their annual festive fancy-dress meet had rather unforeseen circumstances.

It did give me the opportunity to write, for the first time ever, the headline Minnie Mouse breaks ankle at Elterwater Common!

The Futureheads - Hounds Of Love

Whitehaven Civic Hall was picked-out by The Futureheads as one of their best five gigs of 2008 - up there with venues in Poland, Spain and Australia.

Ross Millard was the band's spokesman in an interview with the website DrownedinSound on which he expressed his delight at the way they had been received in Whitehaven.

This is one of the songs which went down particularly well on the tours and of the Civic Hall gig Millard said: “But it's like starving a rabid dog and then getting eaten alive when you try to take it for a walk – the crowd was hungry, and tremendous."

To read what he had to say in full go to our general news section.

London to Brighton in 4 Minutes -- British Ale Productions

Never mind the faster trip from London Euston to Carlisle, can you remember when we used to be treated to this regularly on the old black and white televisions - when they had lost the programmne.

London to Brighton in four minutes. A classic, and this is the famous speeded up film of the train journey from London to Brighton, with a new soundtrack added from Quo.

Now then, what were we saying about London to Carlisle. Wait for that film to come out.
