Clip of the Day, June 21st, 2008 - Curtis Lee - Under The Moon Of Love |
Was it Showaddywaddy who had a hit in the 70's with this? Unfortunately I'm old enough to remember the oirignal, and bought it, back in 1961. He had another hit in Ametrica - Pretty little angel eyes - but his career appears to have bombed. Rather sadly this was taken from his Wikipedia section - It had been rumoured that Curtis Lee died some years back, however that has never been substantiated.
I hope someone can clarify that and the rumours of his death have been greatly exaggerated.

Clip of the Day, June 20th, 2008 - Jimmy Clanton - Venus In Blue Jeans |
Just rummaging through You Tube as you do when I discovered this one. Everybody seems to remember the Mark Wynter version but that was just a cover and this is the real McCoy. Actually it made me Google Jimmy Clanton and I'm pleased to be able to report that he's still alive, kicking and singing. Very interesting biography on the man at http://www.jimmyclanton.com/Bio.html

Clip of the Day, June 19th, 2008 - The Moody Blues - Go Now |
This is a bit special because it was bought for me as a birthday present after seeing them live at the ABC in Carlisle. They were on the same bill as Chuck Berry and some other top acts.
This version was recorded at the Hullabaloo London in 1965. |

Clip of the day, June 18th, 2008 - Sam Cooke - Cupid |
One of the most talented performers of the 1960's, wonderful, smooth voice. Sadly Sam met an untimely end - shot dead in a Motel fracas. Fortunately he's left a stack of memories on disc - and this is the first one we're sharing with you. Only two words for him really - Great Singer.

Clip of the Day, June17th, 2008 - The Animals - House Of The Rising Sun |
Back in the mid sixties I went to Newcastle City Hall to see Chuck Berry and Carl Perkins. On the bill were the Animals playing in front of their home crowd. They were superb and clearly Mr Burdon and co were destined for big things. A classic of its time.

Clip of the Day, June 16th, 2008 - Dave Berry - The Crying Game |
| Hey, what do you know - another request. Former work colleague Gillian saw me in the street today and asked for this one by Dave Berry from 1964 which reached number five in the UK charts . Sorry Gill, couldn't find any video action of Dave singing with those famous black gloves. Still good record. |

Clip of the Day, June 15th, 2008 - The Knack - My Sharona |
My thanks to Sean, in charge of the discs at Workington speedway, for reminding me last night of the quality of this one from the Knack. Great record and this was The Knack performing On Stage At World Cafe Live.

Clip of the day, June 14th, 2008 - Frankie Valli - Cant Take My Eyes Off Of You |
Suddenly realised we hadn't the Four Seasons (Frankie Valli) represented in our video section. So many good ones to pick from as well. It was between Sherry, My Eyes adored you, Big girls don't cry and this one, but we'll come back to them later. It's all yours Frankie.

Clip of the Day, June 13th, 2008 - Billy Fury - Halfway to Paradise |
Apparently no 60's footage of Billy Fury singing his best-lnown record exists and this version was filmed under a year before his untimely deathj in the early 80's. I suppose this would be classed as his signature tune. Great stuff. I think he played Maryport's Palace Ballroom but unfortyunately that was one I missed. Screaming Lord Sutch was the best act I saw there - but more of him later.

Clip of the Day, June 12th, 2008 - Cher - If I Could Turn Back Time |
Thought it was time we had a look and listen to Cher. Always been a fan ever since I first saw her dueting with Sonny. Very talented lady. I think this is one of her best, although I think there's a Whitehaven connection with one of her songs Believe. We'll save that for later. |
